Peace studies is an interdisciplinary, holistic, and intercultural academic field with its two main lines of investigations. One critical line performing diagnostic analysis of the different types of violence suffered by both human beings and nature, in order to make them visible and denounce them. And one constructive line known as the Irenology perspective which focuses on peace and in the construction of alternatives that promote a peaceful transformation of conflict, injustice, and violence. Peace studies draws on contributions of many disciplines and tries to connect concepts and issues normally studied separately. The incorporation of the gender perspective to peace studies in the 1980s has undoubtedly been one of the milestones of the discipline and has since then become a fundamental component to analyze and elucidate the social issues from the perspective of gender. This subject contributes to the development of the contents and competences corresponding to the term on Peace and Development of the International Master in Peace, Conflicts and Development Studies of the Universitat Jaume I.
